This is an executable file that just takes a few
seconds to download.
Once it is downloaded, you may save it to your hard
drive or run it from its current location. Once the file is open,
simply click the gray "Simulate" button and the display
begins. Below is an explanation of the terms used on the
model.
Explanation of symbols and devices used in the magnetic model of the
earth.
- Eo is field of the earth due to electrons.
- Eo is field
of the earth due to positive charges.
- Charges on surface of the earth (+ or -) is
indicative of whether the earth’s magnetic field is normal or
reversed.
- White small rectangle indicates the relative strength
of the magnetic field.
- Grey small rectangle is an on-off switch to be
operated by the mouse.
- Grey large rectangle is the time line from
approximately 13 million years ago to approximately 4 million years
into the future.
- Eo + Eo
is the vector sum of two fields. Examples: ((+6) + (-6)) = 0 or ((+1)
+ (-1)) = 0 or ((+5) + (-3)) = + 2.
- If Eo = Eo
= 0 then that implies that the rotational rate of earth is zero.
- If electrons were to move out to the surface of the
earth, then the relative motion between observer on earth and
electrons is zero resulting in zero magnetic fields due to electrons.
- Electrons can move through solids, liquids, and
gases.
- Radius of electron is 5.29 x 10-11 meter.
- Radius of atom is approximately 0.5 x 10-8
meter.
Positive charges are (0.5 x 10-8) / (.529 x
10-12) = .9 x 104 times larger then electrons or
9000 times larger. Therefore positive charges are not free to move in
solids or liquids (unless the liquids or solids move).
Speed along the time line is increased by inserting 5 in the white
rectangle on bottom left, by inserting 500 the time line is decreased.
Normal operation is with 100. Changes should be made before start of
operation.
